Disaster Recovery: What We Learned from Harvey and Irma

When we reached out to the folks impacted by Hurricane Harvey in our previous blog post, Irma was still making her way to Florida. Knowing that many of our customers were in the path of these devastating storms, we anxiously watched the news for updates. As with any impending disaster, we prepared for the worst, and hoped for the best.

Now that people are returning to their homes, businesses, and lives, we’ve been relieved to hear from several members of the Quadric family. So we’d like to take this opportunity to first of all thank the customers and trial users who’ve been in contact with us to let us know they made it through the storms. We would also like to share our experience with customers during and after the recent hurricanes as a reminder that a disaster recovery plan is vital to the survival of any business.

If we have learned anything as an organization from our experience with disasters of this magnitude, it’s that you can never be too prepared. We have always emphasized the need for a complete backup and disaster recovery plan, and we design our product to be a seamless part of a comprehensive BDR plan.

We’re extremely proud of our solution’s DR capabilities and the expertise of our technical support team. We’re always happy to help Alike users when they need us most – whether it’s ensuring that they are prepared before disaster strikes or making sure they have the support they need during the recovery process.

Over the years, many of our customers have praised our support team for their quick responses and friendly attitude, especially in dire situations. That’s why we’d like to share a few success stories that we were pleased to be a part of this past week as Harvey and Irma impacted countless lives throughout the affected areas.

Before the Storm – Helping Users Prepare

On Monday, after Irma had passed through Florida, we were pleasantly surprised to hear from one of our free trial users, Joseph Young, whose home and business are both located in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Young reached out to us simply to let us know he had survived the storm and to praise our solution for its user-friendly design and efficiency as he prepared for Irma.

“I am exceedingly pleased with how easy, fast, and stable Alike 4 is,” Young wrote to us in an email, adding, “The vaulting to S3 feature was exactly what I needed in this emergency and Quadric really came through especially with your quick responses to my support questions.”

Mr. Young’s follow up statement reflects one of our main goals as a backup vendor, which is to design a product that will help relieve some of the pressure during a stressful situation so that our customers can focus on other important matters: “I can’t sing your praises enough, you really took a lot of stress off me as a Director and allowed me to get back to protecting my family in this emergency situation.”

Those are the success stories we love to hear from our users, and they are a testament to the reason we started this company—to provide a reliable, efficient, and easy to use, solution for customers whose companies are at risk of going out of business after a disaster.

One of Alike’s principal design goals from the beginning was to ease the burden of disaster recovery for other businesses. That’s why our solution isn’t just designed for the end result; it’s designed to help companies get back on their feet as quickly as possible, and with as little effort as possible. The last thing we want to do is get in the way of our customers who are in the middle of a crisis.

Quadric Support to the Rescue

To help us meet that goal, our technical support team always goes above and beyond when providing support in an emergency situation. That’s why we were also elated to hear from Shane Lewis, whose company is located Southeastern part of the U.S.

Once Irma had passed, Mr. Lewis’s company was left without an Internet connection, so he called Quadric support for help with an emergency restore. Without Internet on the customer’s side, our support engineers were unable to remote into his systems to pinpoint his issues.

However, they were able to help Mr. Lewis by talking him through some troubleshooting steps over the phone. Once those steps were complete, Mr. Lewis closed his support ticket with some glowing remarks about the quality of our support team:

“Everything is running perfectly guys. Thanks for all of the support. As always your support is best in the industry!”

While Mr. Young and Mr. Lewis’s experiences certainly reflect the countless Alike users who have depended on Alike to save their companies from total disaster, those success stories are only part of Quadric’s heritage. Yet they are a huge piece of what lies ahead for our company.
